PREFACE
In this book I have described and given details of the care and cultivation of plants suitable for growing in the dwelling-room and conservatory.
I have also included a list of plants for shop decoration for which purpose they are now being used extensively.
Most of the plants mentioned are easy to grow but a few require special care because of their tropical nature. They have, however, been included in this book because many nurserymen who specialise in indoor plants show them in their catalogues. These difficult plants are described here, and details of their special requirements are given in full. Pot plants are popular as gifts during the Christmas period but these are often short-lived, because they do not receive the correct care and attention. Purchasers should therefore study the notes given for the cultivation of each plant in order that they may be kept in their full beauty over as long a period as possible.
Beginners in the cultivation of indoor plants should proceed with caution and should first choose from the list of 'Easy-to-Grow-Plants', on pp. 28-9. When experience has been gained with these, the cultivation of the more difficult kinds may be attempted.
